The rail industry is a major operation, delivering for people and passengers across the UK, every single day. No matter what part you play in that, your contribution is vital. But sometimes, some individuals and teams go way above and beyond their day job to support others in this mammoth task.

New for 2022 we will be accepting entries for two types of Wellbeing Hero awards! This year we will be recognising:

  • A Wellbeing Hero: We’re looking for those who have really gone the extra mile to promote and deliver health and wellbeing in the rail industry. Those who demonstrate kindness, care and compassion that is an inspiration to others, be they colleagues or rail users. Those we can truly call…heroes.

  • Wellbeing Heroes: Do you work alongside a team who go above and beyond to promote and deliver health and wellbeing in the rail industry? We’re looking for a group of individuals who demonstrate kindness, care and compassion that is an inspiration to others, whether than be colleagues or rail users.

Alice Kitchen

Station Supervisor, Translink

2021

Alice is an everyday hero in her role as Station Supervisor. She is a true leader who leads by example and isn’t one to shy away from the less desirable tasks. This, along with her glowing personality has earned her the total respect from her colleagues. Alice always demonstrated an exemplary level of customer service; with a smile and hello to our customers, going above and beyond not just in working hours, but even after her shift had finished.

On several occasions if customers have missed trains for various reasons, she will take them home using her own car, and not just close by. On one occasion she helped a lady that didn’t have money to travel on the last service, so Alice drove her the 60+ mile round journey to get her home safely.

Alice is humble and does these things not for the glory but because she is a genuinely kind and compassionate person. I’m sure there are plenty more examples that we don’t know about, but even for ones that we do, she is truly deserving of this award and she will always be a hero to us.
