Prostate Cancer and prostate disease morbidity within the rail is significant as the sector has a high male contingency, however this disease devastates whole families. The rail sector prides itself in tackling the causes of accidents and incidents of ill health at work and promotes wellbeing with very positive results. Whether the risks to safety and health are attributed to workplace causes or not, the industry and the people that work in it will be adversely affected, in terms of human suffering and cost to both employers and workforce.
There are around 12,000 prostate cancer deaths in the UK every year, that's 32 every day. In the UK, prostate cancer is the 2nd most common cause of male cancer death, Prostate cancer accounts for 13% of all cancer deaths in males in the UK (2018).
Even so men are reluctant to approach their GP’s and know very little about this cancer or other prostate conditions which affects 1 in 3 men. In addition the pandemic has made it more difficult for men to approach their GPs over the last year. The latest data shows that since March 2020, urgent referrals by GPs in England alone have dropped by over 52,000. It’s important to be aware of the risks of prostate cancer, what to look for and seek medical advice which could save your life.
